Infiniti Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber entered his Australian Grand Prix weekend on a two-stop strategy today, visiting local doctors for a sports physiology update before facing a press conference with a class of local primary school children.

Upon arrival in Melbourne, the Australian headed straight to the Melbourne Sports & Allied Health Clinic for a biomechanical analysis of his leg which he broke in several places in a cycling accident in 2008. After a series of routine tests and X-rays analysing the movement of the leg to determine the correct training routine for the season ahead, he then headed to the new Infiniti Center in Brighton, Melbourne, to take questions from a group of five to seven year-olds.

Upon his arrival at the brand new dealership, the 35 youngsters grilled their racing hero on a number of subjects before presenting him with home-made paintings of his racing car which he dutifully signed.

A media session with the world’s press then followed where the 35 year-old racer gave his views ahead of this weekend’s 2013 season opener.

Commenting on the event, Webber said: “I’ve participated in hundreds of Q&A sessions during my career but this one will definitely stand out in my memory. The kids were great fun and asked some impressive questions.

"It's always good to be back in Melbourne and I’m well prepared for the first race next week. I went for a routine check-up on my leg and my training perfectly reflects the way that I have got myself back to full fitness. As always, I’ll be pushing for a strong result in front of my home fans."

Building on Infiniti’s legendary sports sedan design, performance and technology leadership, the all-new 2014 Infiniti Q50 is designed to create a new, distinct level of customer engagement when it launches in the North American market in summer 2013. The Q50 rollout will be followed by other Infiniti global markets later in the year.

Said Infiniti President Johan de Nysschen: “This exciting new Infiniti Q50 stretches the boundaries of what a sports sedan can be, propelling Infiniti in a bold new direction.”

A New Dimension in Dynamic Design
While Infiniti sports sedans have always been noted for their outstanding proportions and presence, the new Infiniti Q50 adds a new dimension of premium style.

Its strong first impression is anchored by the smooth yet dynamic character line arising from its “double arch” grille. It energetically flows through the bodyside like a wave and merges with the rear end, creating a highly fluid and intriguing profile and fully illustrating the Infiniti Q50’s dynamic and athletic stance.

“The Infiniti Q50 reflects the direct influence of the Infiniti concept cars known as the ‘Infiniti Trilogy’, particularly Essence, while honoring the iconic design dynamics of earlier Infiniti sports sedans. The new Q50’s athletic and tightened appearance blends its lower and wider proportions with enhanced interior roominess to stunning effect inside and out,” said Shiro Nakamura, senior vice president and chief creative officer.

Signature Infiniti exterior design features include the “double arch” grille, dynamic arch roofline and Crescent-cut C-pillar. The front end is decidedly aggressive, with a sport front fascia offered on the Q50 sport models. The new grille’s three-dimensional, textural quality is provided by elaborate detailing of the waved mesh pattern surface and chrome surround, while the distinctive LED headlights and marker lights’ sharp lines suggest an almost human look.

The lean, robust body sides are designed to anchor the performance stance with a strong, solid “bone” and arched roofline that flows to the Crescent C-pillars that are similar to those that originally appeared on the Essence Concept. In the rear, the side character lines smoothly merge with the shape of the rear LED combination lights. The familiar rear double-arch trunk line completes the strong, unforgettable view from behind. Heated outside mirrors with integrated LED turn signals are standard, while a power sliding and tilting glass sunroof is optionally available.

Other exterior refinements include new door architecture with narrower, roll-formed A- and B-pillar sashes that provide improved ingress and egress, as well as a more open cabin environment. A new color palette has been specially selected to accent the Q50 contours and sculpted surfaces and includes a range of eight premium colors.

The new body design also offers enhanced airflow over both the upper and lower body portions, resulting in a coefficient of drag of just 0.26. The Q50 also features zero front and rear lift.

“Moving forward, we want all Infiniti vehicles to reflect an energetic force rooted in nature, such as the shape of a dynamic wave,” said Nakamura. “The Q50’s enhanced sense of three-dimensionality gives it a look of strength and agility – a look that is highly personal, seductive and slightly mysterious.”

Performance With a Personal Touch
Throughout the Infiniti Q50’s development, compromise was never an option. No compromise on innovation, design or performance targets, allowing the development teams to stretch the boundaries of what a sports sedan can be.

“The new Q50 amplifies every driver’s performance preference and enjoyment behind the wheel. We have one of the fastest accelerating hybrid engines, which also happens to be projected as one of the most fuel-efficient. We have advanced performance and safety technologies that can see and react before the driver can. And, we have the world’s first quick and precise Direct Adaptive Steering technology,” said de Nysschen.

At launch in North America, two advanced powertrains will be available, followed by additional engine options in other global markets later in the year. The Q50’s refined 3.7-litre aluminum-alloy DOHC 24-valve V6 is rated at 328 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque and features Continuously Variable Valve Timing Control System (CVTCS) and Variable Valve Event & Lift (VVEL®).

The available hybrid powertrain features the Infiniti Direct Response HybridÔsystem with Intelligent Dual Clutch Control. It combines a 3.5-litre 24-valve DOHC aluminum-alloy V6 and compact laminated lithium-ion battery design with an innovative one-motor/two-clutch motor control. The system’s V6 is rated at 302 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, while the advanced 50 kW electric motor is rated at 67 horsepower and 199 lb-ft of torque. The hybrid system net power is 360 horsepower, providing strong acceleration and lean fuel economy.

“True to the Infiniti DNA, our hybrid powertrains put performance first, without compromising fuel efficiency. It takes full advantage of the electric motor’s instant torque for exceptional acceleration and, in combination with the 3.5-litre V6, provides a sporty driving feel under all driving conditions. We have targeted the best balance of performance and fuel economy and hit it dead center,” said de Nysschen.

Both Q50 powertrains are matched with an advanced 7-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission with manual shift mode and available steering column-mounted magnesium paddle shifters. The Q50 is available in rear-wheel drive and Intelligent All-Wheel Drive with both powertrains.

Precise handling is provided by the 4-wheel independent multi-link suspension. The front is a single pivot double-wishbone design, while the revised rear design utilizes a multi-link design with coil springs and Dual Flow Path® shock absorbers, with increased camber stiffness and improved ride comfort. The suspension features extensive use of lightweight aluminum components, along with front and rear stabiliser bars. A sport-tuned suspension is available with Sport models. Also supporting the enhanced handling is an improvement in front body stiffness (versus the previous generation).

The Q50 rides on 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels with machine-finished surface with 225/55R17 all-season run-flat tires. Also available are 19-inch aluminum-alloy sport wheels with 245/40R19 run-flat all-season or summer tires. Confident braking is provided by 4-wheel power-assisted vented disc brakes with 4-wheel Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake force Distribution and Brake Assist. Also available are sport brakes with upgraded rotors, 4-piston front calipers and 2-piston rear. Steering is provided by a power-assisted vehicle-speed-sensitive rack-and-pinion system.

The new Q50 also features available Infiniti Direct Adaptive Steering technology, a world’s first production vehicle design. The system allows independent control of the Q50’s tyre angle and steering inputs, transmitting the driver’s intentions to the wheels faster than a mechanical system.

This increases the direct driving performance feel by quickly and intelligently communicating road surface feedback to the driver. Four different steering settings are offered, allowing customization by driver preference or road conditions. This world’s first technology provides the flexibility for the driver to change both steering effort and the steering gear ratio. A backup mechanical steering system is provided with models utilizing the new Direct Adaptive Steering technology.

Also offered is another world’s first, Active Lane Control, which uses a camera-based straight-line stability system to further enhance on-centre driving capability and improve vehicle stability. The system is included as part of the Lane Departure Prevention system, not only adjusting for unintended lane drift, but also making finer adjustments for minor road surface changes or crosswinds (as detected by the camera-based, lane marker detection system). The system goes beyond the traditional Lane Departure Prevention system, taking it a step further by not only reading the road ahead (the camera is located above the rearview mirror) for unintended lane drift but also by making small steering input angle adjustments if the Q50 undergoes minor direction changes due to road surface changes or crosswinds (as detected by the lane marker detection system). By reducing the need for steering input for the driver, the driver’s effort may be reduced.

“The beauty of these advanced systems is to allow a more personal driving experience, with more input when desired and less intrusion of road imperfections in the steering wheel,” said de Nysschen. “These are just the start of a range of future technologies that are becoming a point of differentiation for our Infiniti customers.”

In fine-tuning the Infiniti Q50’s exceptional performance standards, Infiniti’s partnership with Red Bull Racing enabled three-time Formula One World Driver’s Champion Sebastian Vettel and the team’s Test & Reserve driver Sebastien Buemi to provide an extra dimension to its development. With the goal of making the new model the most dynamic and exciting sports sedan on the market, Vettel provided input on the Q50’s performance and handling at Infiniti’s Tochigi facility in Japan.

Buemi tested at Nurburgring – one of the toughest proving grounds in the world – pushing prototypes to the limits to help produce a chassis with outstanding handling characteristics.

Infiniti recently announced that from 2013 it will be Title Partner and Technical Partner to ‘Infiniti Red Bull Racing.’ This deep collaboration will lead to joint technical projects for mutual benefits on the track and the road.

“Having the opportunity to receive feedback on chassis development from two world class drivers is priceless,” said de Nysschen. “Our partnership as ‘Infiniti Red Bull Racing’ is an extensive one. We are working together to identify a number of areas for technical collaboration and to apply the benefits of partnering with the Formula One World Champions to our own people, processes and technology.”

Another way that the new Infiniti Q50 raises the performance standards in class is the high degree of available personalization, which is made possible with the new fully customizable digital environment. The system works with the vehicle’s advanced i-Keys to recognize the vehicle settings for up to four different drivers.

Offering a sense of “my car knows me,” the i-Key can recognize each driver and automatically engage pre-set preferences for driving position, heating and cooling, audio, navigation and telematics. For example, up to 96 optional settings in are offered in the custom mode alone. Easy setting or changing of settings is accessed through the innovative dual touch-screen displays.

In addition, by using the drive mode selector located on the centre console, engine, transmission, handling and steering adjustments can be instantly tuned, for example, for sport or touring settings.

Modern Luxury Meets Meticulous Craftsmanship
Matching the inspired Infiniti Q50 design and performance is an interior created to the same extraordinary standards. The interior environment offers a powerful blend of three-dimensional textures, highest craftsmanship and premium quality, combining modern luxury and user-focused advanced technology.

“An interior is a confluence of thousands of parts and many materials, including leathers, fabrics, metals and glass. The harmony with each element is an important part of the Q50’s warmth and high quality feel,” Nakamura explained. “Our designers approached the integration of every element in the interior in terms of not just function but also of stimulation of the senses – color, touch, texture, finish and beauty – creating an environment that is both intuitive and indulgent.”

The Q50 interior is also designed as an invitation to drive – to celebrate the elation of driving that is often lost in the modern world. As such, special attention was paid to the driver position, offering a generous range of customizable adjustments within a cosseting yet comfortable cockpit. The Q50’s instrument panel honors Infiniti’s “double wave” design tradition, while updated with a new asymmetrical flow from the top of the centre cluster to the wide center console. Access to all key operations and controls is designed so that the driver does not need to change driving posture, including use of hard switches, touch panels and drive mode selector controller.

The front and rear seats are a new ergonomic design, developed to help distribute body pressure across a wider range of the upper seating surface. When sitting, the pressure load on the backbone is about 1.4 times greater than while standing. The bending moments that become a factor of load are reduced by the new seat design, with the additional support for the pelvis and the self-weight of the chest.

The roomy interior space offers ample front and rear head room, ample rear knee room enhanced by the new, thin front seatback design, and greater front seat slide and lift adjustability. Front and rear seat hip points have also been adjusted for greater comfort. The rear seat foot room is also expanded by moving the B-pillar forward nearly an inch (versus traditional designs), making it easier to enter and exit. Effective luggage space is expected to be the best in the segment at 18.0 cubic feet with the 3.7-litre V6 and 14.1 cubic feet with the hybrid powertrain.

The Infiniti Q50 features a choice of interior fabrics and colors, including available leather-appointed seating surfaces. Three interior colors are offered: Wheat, Graphite and Stone.

Finishing off the elegant interior is a combination of “Kacchu” aluminum inspired by traditional Samurai armaments and genuine maple wood trim, which is representative of the 16th century Urushi painting technique.

“Quality is another Infiniti Q50 strong point,” added Nakamura. “Our designer’s passion, obsession with detail and devotion to craftsmanship and continuous improvements ensure we are producing a truly premium product of the best quality.”

The Q50’s quiet cabin is augmented by standard Active Noise Control, with cancelling of intrusive low frequency noise from four door-mounted speakers, allowing easy conversation with passengers. Premium audio systems include an available next-generation Studio on Wheels by Bose® audio system with a new instrument panel 3-speaker array (14 speakers total throughout the cabin) and Advanced Staging Technology®. SiriusXM Satellite Radio (SiriusXM subscription required, sold separately) and High Definition (HD) radio are standard.

Other features include Dual-Zone Automatic Temperature Control, Bluetooth® Hands-free Phone System, RearView Monitor and available Advanced Climate Control System (ACCS) with Plasmacluster® air purifier and Around View® Monitor with Moving Object Detection.

Infiniti Connected Technologies
Building on Infiniti’s unique approach to making owners’ lives easier, which includes the Infiniti Personal Assistant program with 24-hour access to a live team of professional assistants, the new Infiniti InTouch™ telematics system brings the future of in-car connectivity to the Q50 interior today. Unlike conventional interfaces, the Q50 has not one but two touch capacitive screens with intuitive hand gesture screen operation to easily connect drivers to their lives outside the car.

“We have new technologies that embrace the way people live today – seamless connectivity and personalisation everywhere they go, including while in their cars, with an optimized human-machine interface for ease of use,” said de Nysschen.

Along with the large dual screens, the Infiniti InTouch™ system is designed to effortlessly synchronise car and driver. Content and functions directed to the upper screen includes the most frequently used applications, such as navigation maps.  Other content is directed to the lower display screen.

The two screens work together so that, for example, the navigation map can be viewed on the top screen while setting destinations or finding points-of-interest can be done on the lower screen. A limited number of critical functions, such as heating and cooling, are operated by hard switches. Content can be customized using easy-to-understand menus. A selection of vehicle-centric apps will be pre-loaded into the system. Owners will also be able to download, update and synch personal apps through their smartphones and USB drives. Additional details on the system’s operation will be available at a later date.

Safety Shield Technologies
The final area of segment leadership for the new Infiniti Q50 is its advanced safety systems. Building on the long list of safety and security technologies already found in other Infiniti models, the Infiniti Q50 offers available Intelligent Cruise Control with Full Speed Range, predictive Forward Collision Warning (world’s first technology), Forward Emergency Braking, Distance Control Assist, Blind Spot Intervention, Back-up Collision Intervention®, Lane Departure Prevention and Active Lane Control.

Coming Soon
The all-new 2014 Infiniti Q50 will be initially offered in the United States and Canada beginning in summer 2013. At launch, two powertrains – the 3.7-litre V6 and 3.5-litre Hybrid – will be available, each in a choice of rear-wheel drive or Intelligent All-Wheel Drive and in a selection of trim levels, including Sport models.

The Q50 will roll out in other global Infiniti markets beginning in summer 2013 and will include additional powertrain offerings adapted to respective market needs. It is currently scheduled for release in Australia in the fourth quarter of this year.

“The new Infiniti Q50 is a true game changer in the sports sedan segment,” said de Nysschen. “With its cutting-edge performance, design and technology, it breaks away from ordinary – just like the Infiniti brand.”

INFINITI ANNOUNCES NEW NAMING STRATEGY

INFINITI ANNOUNCES NEW NAMING STRATEGY

18/12/2012

  • Infiniti models from MY2014 to carry Q or QX prefix
  • New nomenclature symbolizes new brand direction and the commitment to Infiniti under the leadership of Johan de Nysschen
  • The use of Q & QX captures the inspiration within the next generation of Infiniti models, while relating back to Infiniti’s roots of the Q45
  • New premium sports sedan to launch at NAIAS 2013 will be first Infiniti to carry new Q badge

HONG KONG, December 18th 2012: Marking another significant step in its plan to further expand its presence in the premium automotive sector, Infiniti today announced details of a new nomenclature strategy to be applied to its complete product range beginning with the 2014 model year. The first model to carry Infiniti’s new Q badge will be the Q50, an all-new premium sports sedan to be unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in January 2013.

The premium automotive brand will see its model range simply prefixed either by Q – for sedans and convertibles, or QX, for crossover and SUV models. Each model will be further identified by a double digit representing hierarchy within the range.

This strategic change reflects Infiniti’s desire for clarity and cohesiveness as it embarks on ambitious growth plans, including significant expansion of the Infiniti portfolio.

Commenting on the revised naming philosophy, Johan de Nysschen, President of Infiniti Motor Company Limited, said: “Over the past few months, we have talked at length with our retailers, our customers, and our business partners about our brand. The need for a new identity and direction to promote consumer familiarity with our model range as we expand the portfolio became evident. To achieve this, we clearly needed a simple and consistent nomenclature framework. After exhaustive research and evaluation, we concluded that ‘Q’ captured the inspiration within the next generation of Infiniti models, as well as emphasizing our performance credentials while harking back to our heritage with the Q45 – Infiniti’s first iconic flagship product in 1989.”

Infiniti’s new nomenclature strategy will be implemented in logical stages within the existing product range, as new model year variants are introduced. The brand’s future plans include a range of next-generation Infiniti models which will carry Q and QX badging from the outset.

Melbourne, AUSTRALIA – 13 December 2012 – Infiniti Centre Brisbane, Queensland’s first official Infiniti dealership, is now open.

This stunning new Infiniti Retail Centre officially opened its doors this week, ushering in a new look for Fortitude Valley’s famed luxury automotive precinct. The centre’s six-car showroom features a complete concierge service and has been designed to Infiniti’s IREDI (Infiniti Retail Environment Design Initiative) standards in conjunction with leading architectural firms Graphos Architects from Melbourne and Brisbane’s McKerrell Architects.

Infiniti Centre Brisbane is the second facility of its type in Australia, the first being Infiniti Centre Sydney, which opened in September. This latest Infiniti retail centre delivers the brand’s trademark high-level customer experience which is based on the Japanese notion of omotenashi, or anticipatory hospitality.

Infiniti Centre Brisbane follows the designer boutique layout the brand has adopted in Australia. It’s a showroom design that reflects the exclusivity of the Infiniti marque and comprises three parts: a lounge, a lobby and a gallery, the latter showcasing a selection of the Infiniti’s luxurious and sporting model range.

Kevin Snell, General Manager of Infiniti Cars Australia, says Infiniti has adopted a more considered approach to the local retailing of its luxury cars, a choice based on findings from extensive local research.

“Australian luxury car buyers want three things: a confident brand that engages them and one that matches their values; a dynamic luxury car that excites them; and an ownership experience that is based on respect and recognition, one that continues throughout a customer’s complete period of ownership.”

“Our newest retail showroom, Infiniti Centre Brisbane, has been designed to meets these needs. I’m confident our refreshing approach to luxury car buying will be welcomed by our new customers,” he said.

Infiniti, the performance luxury car brand from Japan, officially entered the Australian luxury car market in September this year. The company’s two launch models, the bold Infiniti FX performance crossover and stunning Infiniti M sedan, were joined this month by the dynamic Infiniti G37 Coupe and G37 Convertible. More exciting new models are set to join the Australian range from 2013.

Infiniti Centre Brisbane is owned and operated by leading national automotive retail group A.P. Eagers. The company is spearheading Infiniti’s retail ambitions in the state of Queensland and the opening of Infiniti Centre Brisbane brings a long-awaited new choice for luxury car buyers in Queensland.

Infiniti Centre Brisbane is located at 5 James Street Fortitude Valley.

INFINITI G COUPE & CONVERTIBLE PRICES AND EQUIPMENT

INFINITI G COUPE & CONVERTIBLE PRICES AND EQUIPMENT

30/11/2012

Melbourne, Australia, 30 November 2012– Infiniti, the performance luxury car maker from Japan, today announced Australian prices and equipment for both its G37 Coupe and G37 Convertible.

The announcement comes ahead of the official local market release of these two exciting sports cars, scheduled for next month. They will join the company’s recently released Australian market launch models, the bold FX performance crossover and the stunning Infiniti M sports sedan.

“The Infiniti G37 Coupe and Convertible represent Infiniti’s next important step in Australia,” said Kevin Snell, General Manager of Infiniti Cars Australia. “These two cars open Infiniti to another vital segment within the Australian luxury car market and expand the scope of our ability to offer luxury car buyers a long-awaited new choice.

“These two exciting sports cars embody Infiniti’s performance luxury credentials by packaging dynamic handling with technology, comfort and quality in an athletic yet elegant design. These are luxury cars for drivers.”

Powertrain

Both of these soon-to-be-released Infiniti models are powered by a 3.7-litre petrol V6 engine featuring VVEL (Variable Valve Event and Lift) technology, producing a maximum power output of 235kW and a peak torque of 360Nm. The standard-fitment transmission is a seven-speed automatic equipped with Adaptive Shift Control, Downshift Rev Matching and magnesium paddle shifters to make driving smooth and enjoyable. A Viscous Limited-Slip Differential (VLSD) is available for the G37 Coupe.

Chassis and suspension

Underpinning the dynamic performance of the Infiniti G37 Coupe and Convertible is the marque’s driver-oriented Front Mid-Ship platform. This rear-wheel drive design sees the engine placed further back in the chassis to optimise weight distribution for improved handling. The combination of a double-wishbone front suspension design and a multi-link rear layout, along with carefully tuned suspension geometry, helps deliver responsive handling and impressive ride comfort. Lightweight alloy wheels in both 18-inch and 19-inch designs are available.

Responsive steering is delivered by a vehicle-speed-sensing steering design, providing drivers with great feel and optimum steering effort at low and high vehicle speeds.

Available on the G37 Coupe is Infiniti’s exclusive 4-Wheel Active-Steer System (4WAS). This combines a unique chassis configuration equipped with variable front steering ratios and rear suspension geometry that adjusts to steering input and vehicle speed via motor-driven controls. The system’s electronic control unit calculates the desired vehicle dynamics from a series of sensors, including vehicle speed and steering angle, and separately directs both the front and rear actuators to change steering gear ratios and rear geometry by moving both the front steering gear and rear suspension lower links – thus enhancing the coupe’s sports car-like agility and secure stability.

S Premium grades of the G37 Coupe and Convertible are fitted with aluminium four-piston (front) and two-piston callipers (rear) embossed with Infiniti lettering and large ventilated rotors – 14.0-inch front and 13.8-inch at the rear.

Exterior design

Externally, the G37 Coupe and Convertible wear a sharp, kinetic design with elegant and sophisticated proportions. L-shaped High-Intensity Discharge (HID) Bi-Xenon headlights with integrated fog lamps feature at the front. At the rear, both models feature broad rear fenders that flow into large LED taillights, an Infiniti trademark; an available integrated RearView Monitor camera; rear under-body air diffusers and large dual exhaust outlets with chrome finishers.

The G37 Convertible uses a three-piece retractable hard-top roof that takes it from closed-roof coupe to open-top convertible at the touch of a button. When closed, the G37 Convertible has a coupe-like silhouette similar to that of its hard-top sibling.

Interior

Both cars have a sophisticated, luxurious interior with a cockpit-oriented driver and front passenger area. A ten-way power-adjustable driver’s seat is standard fitment alongside an eight-way power-adjustable front passenger seat. The stylish instrument binnacle features electro-luminescent instruments coloured in white and violet. Both models have comfortable rear seating, giving sports car enjoyment for more than just two people. Leather upholstery is fitted to all model grades.

The highly experienced automotive retail group will soon open Infiniti Centre Brighton; a stunning showroom designed according to Infiniti’s global IREDI architectural standards. Infiniti Centre Brighton will stand adjacent to Prestons’ Porsche showroom on the busy Nepean Highway.

“Appointing Preston Motors Group as our first operational Retail Partner in Melbourne is a great step forward for our brand,” he said.

FIRST DRIVE OF THE FX VETTEL EDITION

FIRST DRIVE OF THE FX VETTEL EDITION

FORMULA ONE WORLD CHAMPION SEBASTIAN VETTEL TAKES TO THE TRACK EARLY IN JAPAN FOR FIRST DRIVE OF THE FX VETTEL EDITION

Tochigi, Japan – October 3rd, 2012: Formula One Double World Champion Sebastian Vettel’s Japanese Grand Prix weekend started early this week, as he took to the track to drive his Infiniti FX Vettel Edition production car for the very first time.

Fresh from his inspired victory in Singapore, The Red Bull Racing star and Infiniti Brand Ambassador spent the day at Infiniti’s global manufacturing plant in Tochigi to approve the first production models of the car he co-designed rolling off the production line. After a tour of the manufacturing process and a chance to meet the engineers and factory staff behind the car’s development, it was then over to the Tochigi test track to put the special edition through its paces. He also test drove a number of future Infiniti products currently being developed, giving valuable performance feedback to engineers and fellow test drivers.

A unique collaboration between Vettel and Infiniti’s SVP and Chief Creative Officer, Shiro Nakamura, the Infiniti FX Vettel Edition features a 5.0 litre V8 420PS engine and F1-inspired technology including advanced aerodynamic devices and carbon fibre components. It is available in selected markets now for €120,000 (price dependent on country). Vettel drove the prototype concept at the Goodwood Festival of Speed earlier this year.

Commenting on the event, Sebastian Vettel said: “It was great to get a look behind the scenes at Infiniti, meet some of the people involved and of course drive the car. In F1, the first few laps testing a new car are when you find out if it’s quick or not. It was the same today and I’m pleased to say the Infiniti team have done an outstanding job. It really delivers on the vision I had – it’s very fast, and a car that driving enthusiasts are going to enjoy. It was also good to be involved in the testing of some future products and to work with the Infiniti engineers to develop the performance further.”

2013 INFINITI M SEDAN RECEIVE 5-STAR OVERALL NCAP RATING

2013 INFINITI M SEDAN RECEIVE 5-STAR OVERALL NCAP RATING

20/09/2012

FRANKLIN, Tenn., 20 September 2012 – Infiniti today announced that the 2013 Infiniti M luxury sedan has been awarded a 5-Star overall safety rating by the USA’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) under the agency's New Car Assessment Program (NCAP). The 5-Star Safety Ratings System is designed to provide consumers with information about the crash protection and rollover safety of new vehicles. Five stars is the highest possible rating. NHTSA is the only organisation that rates rollover resistance.

"Infiniti's Inspired Performance encompasses the total design of our vehicles, including our goal to provide a secure, confidence-inspiring environment for driver and passengers. The NHTSA 5-Star NCAP rating is an important third-party validation of these efforts," said Infiniti Americas Vice President Ben Poore. "We're also proud of Infiniti's ongoing industry leadership in advanced safety technologies such as Blind Spot Intervention®, Lane Departure Prevention, Forward Collision Warning and the new Backup Collision Intervention that was just introduced on the all-new Infiniti JX luxury crossover."

All 2013 Infiniti M models come equipped with standard Infiniti Advanced Air Bag System (AABS) with dual-stage supplemental front air bags with seat belt sensors and occupant classification sensor, standard front seat-mounted side impact supplemental air bags, and standard roof-mounted curtain side impact supplemental air bags for front and rear-seat outboard occupant head protection.

The Infiniti M also includes standard 3-point seat belts with Automatic Locking Retractor and Emergency Locking Retractor (driver's seat only), front seat belts with pretensioners and load limiters, front seat Active Head Restraints with 4-way manual adjustments, along with Zone Body construction with front and rear crumple zones and LATCH System (Lower Anchors and Tether for Children).

2013 Infiniti M Safety and Security Features

The 2013 Infiniti M is available with a number of innovative technologies, including Infiniti's Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Lane Departure Prevention (LDP) systems. The LDW and LDP systems use a small camera installed behind the windshield to detect lane markers in front of the vehicle, calculate its position relative to those lane markers and warn the driver of a potential unintended lane departure with a visual display and audible buzzer. If the driver does not return the vehicle back toward the centre of the travel lane, the LDP system assists the driver with a gentle application of the brakes.

Also offered are Blind Spot Warning (BSW) and Blind Spot Intervention® (BSI®) systems, which are available as part of the S Premium Package. BSW illuminates an indicator light if another vehicle is detected in the blind spot area. If the driver then uses the turn signal, the indicator flashes and an audible warning sounds. BSI® is another world-first safety feature from Infiniti and takes blind spot technology to the next level. If the vehicle gets close to the lane marker and another vehicle is detected in the blind spot area, the indicator flashes, an audible warning sounds, and selective braking is applied to one side of the vehicle to help the driver bring the vehicle back to the centre of the driving lane. BSI® operates regardless of turn signal usage. Other available safety features include Intelligent Brake Assist with Forward Collision Warning and Front Pre-Crash Seat Belts.

Infiniti commenced official Australian sales at the start of this month. The model year 2013 Infiniti M sedan is available alongside the exciting Infiniti FX performance crossover. Australian luxury car buyers seeking more information on either model can visit www.infiniticars.com.au

INFINITI AT THE 2012 PARIS MOTOR SHOW

INFINITI AT THE 2012 PARIS MOTOR SHOW

17/09/2012

ROLLE, Switzerland, – 17 September 2012: – Representing a bold next stage in Infiniti’s quest for performance luxury motoring in the most sustainable way possible, the Infiniti LE Concept is a true Infiniti with just one thing missing – a tailpipe. Making its European debut at the Paris Motor Show on September 27 in Hall 1, stand 224, the LE Concept will line up alongside the award-winning Infiniti sports car concept and M35h production hybrid in a powerful display of “no compromise” performance motoring.

“The Infiniti LE Concept is a ‘production intent’ concept and most of what you see will become a reality,” said Bernard Loire, Vice President of Infiniti Europe, Middle East, India and Africa “It is too early to confirm exactly when and where it will go on sale, but we are heartened by recent moves to encourage electric cars, such as France raising the purchase incentive from €5000 to €7000 per car. It is fitting that the LE Concept should make its European debut in Paris.”

“Infiniti believes the future of luxury lies in sustainable luxury and we intend to continue taking a leadership role to achieve it.”, added Loire.

Infiniti’s Paris Motor Show stars in detail

Infiniti LE Concept

Combining driving appeal with zero emissions in a dramatically-styled compact saloon body, the all-electric LE Concept is being shown in Paris with a pledge that a production version will be on sale in selected markets in around two years’ time. The showroom model will not only share the LE Concept’s advanced powertrain but also much of its design character – one that shouts “dynamic luxury” rather than “electric vehicle”. Also in line for production are its highly crafted cabin and user-friendly technology – including the possibility of a ground-breaking wireless recharging system.

An all-new design, the four-door saloon body combines dynamism and elegance with signature Infiniti design cues and the latest Infiniti design language. The proportions are typically well balanced, the high rear deck injecting a sensation of movement. Up front, there’s the expected double-arch grille but here featuring a charging port hidden beneath the illuminated centre Infiniti emblem. The LED headlights and taillights echo the design direction of Infiniti’s recent concepts, as do the crescent-cut rear pillar and strong shoulder line to express flowing movement. Front spoiler, rear diffuser and side aero fins – all glowing with integrated illumination – contribute to an impressive Cd (drag coefficient) of 0.25.

At around 4.7m long, the LE Concept is a similar size to the Infiniti G Sedan, supporting Infiniti’s belief that zero emissions does not have to mean small. Nor does it mean plain: the cabin is that of a true luxury car, capitalising on the silence of the electric drivetrain to provide a tranquil ride at all speeds. Next-generation instrumentation and connectivity are previewed by LE Concept, but being an Infiniti, hospitality – evidenced by its soft lighting, excellent visibility and welcoming openness – is just as important.

The LE Concept does not compromise either on roominess or comfort. The advanced packaging solution of placing the lithium-ion batteries under the floor not only provides a no-compromise approach to luggage and passenger room, but also contributes to the vehicle’s low centre of gravity, enhancing handling.

Staying true to the Infiniti creed of Inspired Performance, the LE Concept is designed to stimulate rather than sedate on the road. This is achieved by a high performance electric motor with 100kW (134PS), along with 325Nm (240lb ft) of torque instantly available. The target for the engineers was “impressive EV acceleration without sacrificing the range”, expected to be around 160km. A sculpted shift knob controls the drive system, which offers several driving modes, while a centre cluster shows information, such as a dynamic range calculator, in a mix of digital and analogue displays.

The battery system is a proven laminated 24 kWh lithium-ion (Li-ion) design with a ChaDeMo DC50kW quick charger that can deliver an 80 per cent charge in 30 minutes. Other charging options being looked at include an innovative home-based Wireless Charging System. This uses a coil safely encased in the charging pad to charge the battery via inductive energy flow. The Intelligent Park Assist feature will automatically align the vehicle over the charging pad for optimum charging and the driver can walk away, with no cables to connect. The high-frequency, non-contact charging, controlled by the car’s display or by smartphone, is safe for children and pets and can be installed easily in a home garage.

“A luxury car for a new generation of sustainable luxury buyers must not compromise on performance. Buyers want ‘green,’ but won’t settle for any aspect of the driving experience being less than that of their current luxury vehicles,” said Bernard Loire.

The LE Concept’s zero emissions credentials and pure approach to luxury define a new class of compact premium electric vehicles that Infiniti intends to lead when a production version goes on sale, scheduled for 2014.

Infiniti Emerg-e concept
The Paris show will be the first public appearance of the Emerg-e concept since being nominated as one of the winners in the concept category of the Automotive Brand Contest, an important international design competition organized by the German Design Council.

The award reinforces the acclaim which followed the car’s premiere at the Geneva Motor Show earlier in the year and the dynamic debut of a fully-functioning prototype at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The Infiniti Emerg-e is the ultimate expression of Infiniti’s inspired performance. This 402bhp (300kW) mid-engine, twin motor, electric motors powered sports car is capable of accelerating from 0-60mph in just four seconds - and from zero to 130mph in a single, seamless 30 second burst. It signals an array of exciting new technologies that the brand will adopt in its quest to build dramatic and sustainable high performance cars. Infiniti Emerg-e also provides a fresh expression of Infiniti’s design language applied to a potential high performance, mid-ship sports car for the first time.

Infiniti M35 Hybrid
Alongside the Emerg-e concept on the stand and summing up Infiniti’s no-compromise approach in production form, the M35h is being shown in Paris in its latest, even cleaner guise with 159g/km of CO2 – while still able to accelerate from 0-100km/h in just 5.5 seconds, making it the world’s fastest accelerating hybrid saloon, as recorded by Guinness World Records.

Infiniti FX Vettel Edition & RBR F1™ car
Performance of a more traditional kind – courtesy of a 420PS 5.0-litre V8 – will be displayed in Paris thanks to a rare public sighting of probably the most exclusive crossover ever made, the Infiniti FX Vettel Edition, developed in association with Formula One Double World Champion Sebastian Vettel. Just 50 examples have been made available for Western Europe, costing from €120,000 (depending on country), with many already spoken for.

Fittingly the only other car with Sebastian’s name on – his Infiniti-partnered Red Bull Racing F1™ car – will also be on show on the Infiniti stand
Infiniti G, EX and FX

Completing Infiniti’s display in Paris will be the extravagantly well-equipped Premium versions of the FX30d luxury SUV and EX30d crossover, both powered by Infiniti’s highly efficient and torque-rich 3.0-litre diesel V6.

The Infiniti G range will be represented by the G37 Cabriolet, the two-door sports coupé with all features as standard, including a potent and musical V6 engine and electrically retractable hard-top for a seductive open-air driving experience.

INFINITI EMERG-E CONCEPT 2012 PEBBLE BEACH DEBUT

INFINITI EMERG-E CONCEPT 2012 PEBBLE BEACH DEBUT

17/08/2012

PEBBLE BEACH, California, 17 August 2012 – The Infiniti Emerg-e Concept, the latest embodiment of Infiniti Inspired Performance, makes its North American debut this weekend during festivities surrounding the 62nd annual Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, one of the world’s premier celebrations of the automobile.

Infiniti, which has enjoyed a major presence at the event for many years, will be showing a number of special vehicles in addition to the stunning Infiniti Emerg-e, including the Infiniti LE Concept luxury electric vehicle, the Red Bull Racing Formula 1 showcar, and the all-new 2013 IPL G Convertible – the second member of the Infiniti Performance Lineä.  The collection of Infiniti vehicles is being shown at the Infiniti Moments of Inspiration display located at the top of Peter Hay Hill.

“It is always an honour to be included among the prestigious activities during the week of the Pebble Beach Concours and this year we’re bringing our most advanced concept ever,” said Infiniti Americas Vice President Ben Poore.  “Named ‘Best in Show’ at this year’s Geneva Motor Show, Infiniti Emerg-e truly is one of the most technically interesting and artfully sculpted automobiles in the world today.  It is a major achievement in both engineering and design.”

As the first mid-ship sports car the marque has ever produced, Infiniti Emerg-e takes the Infiniti design vocabulary in a fresh, intriguing and convincing new direction.  Infiniti Emerg-e also seamlessly blends supercar performance with the ability to function as a true electric vehicle.  The 300kW mid-engined, twin electric motor-powered Infiniti Emerg-e is capable of accelerating from 0 – 60 miles per hour in just 4.0 seconds – and from zero to 130 miles per hour in a single, seamless 30-second burst.  Yet it also operates as a zero-emission urban transport over a 30-mile range.

Infiniti Emerg-e stretches Infiniti's already accomplished expertise in the areas of electric vehicles and alternative propulsion systems.  Along with its advanced Infiniti M Hybrid luxury sedan, Infiniti recently announced that a production luxury electric vehicle, based on the Infiniti LE Concept, will join the line-up in the 2014 model year. The Infiniti LE Concept’s compact EV platform maximises interior space by placing the lithium-ion batteries under the passenger compartment floor, helping provide a low vehicle centre of gravity for enhanced handling and maximizing trunk room without compromising front or rear seat passenger legroom or comfort.

Beyond its advanced packaging, the real beauty of the interior is its “smart hospitality” – combining a luxurious Infiniti environment with next-generation instrumentation, driver interface and connectivity.  In keeping with the Infiniti challenger mentality, the LE Concept also includes a built-in wireless charging system, which is expected to be the first home-based wireless charging system if adapted for the production version.

The Red Bull Racing Formula 1 showcar represents Infiniti’s ongoing involvement and partnership with the Red Bull Racing F1 team, which has helped raise Infiniti’s visibility throughout the world.  The Red Bull Racing team and driver Sebastian Vettel won back-to-back World Championships in 2010 and 2011.
The new 2013 IPL G Convertible combines seductive style with a highly engaging driving experience.  Key features include a 252kW 3.7-litre V6, 7-speed automatic transmission, IPL-tuned suspension and sport brakes, and unique exterior and interior treatments (compared to the non-IPL G37 Convertible).

Red Bull Racing Confirms Mark Webber for 2013

Red Bull Racing Confirms Mark Webber for 2013

10/07/2012

Red Bull Racing has announced that Mark Webber's contract has been extended for another year, meaning the Australian, who won the recent British Grand Prix for a second time, will continue to drive for the Team in 2013.

"I've been with Red Bull Racing since 2007 and have achieved nine grand prix wins during that time," said Webber. "I'm high on confidence at the moment and firing on all cylinders. I know the Team well and I'm very comfortable here; we have grown together over the years and it feels like absolutely the right thing to stay with Red Bull for another season. The Team is constantly working hard to improve in all areas and we've shown that together we can win races. It's great to be able to make this announcement off the back of the win in Silverstone at the weekend and I'm looking forward to competing on the edge and pushing myself in every race again next season."

Christian Horner said: "Mark has driven very well in the first nine races of this season and his performance has been impressive. Much of his Formula One success has been during his time with Red Bull Racing and together we have achieved 10 poles, nine wins and 31 podiums. As there was a strong desire from both sides to continue the partnership, it was a logical decision to extend our relationship and it is with great pleasure that we confirm Mark will drive for us in 2013."

As Sebastian Vettel is already contracted to Red Bull Racing, this confirms the Team's 2013 driver line-up.

Q&A with Mark Webber

Q1: Was signing with Red Bull Racing for 2013 an easy decision?

Webber: In the end, yes it was. It's been an interesting few months, but overall the continuity and desire for me to continue at Red Bull Racing was very strong. My main focus is on this year's Championship, which is very important. In addition it's an amazing bunch of guys and girls at Red Bull Racing and I really, really like working with them. That has a huge effect on me and how I perform in the car and it helped me in my decision.

Q2: You mention the people, what else is it that you like about the Team and Red Bull?

Webber: Well, we have gone through plenty together here. We went from the days when Red Bull had not long owned the team to what it is now. The team really changed when we started to get successful, in terms of getting the balance right between being extremely professional on all fronts to still keeping that laid back and approachable attitude that the team still has within reason. It is just one nice big family now in many ways and we have grown so much. We've come a long way and I think it's clear that I fit well here and that's what I really like about it.

Q3: Were you tempted to think about moving elsewhere?

Webber: There were discussions with Ferrari, but my decision was to stay here.

Q4: What's the benefit of staying with Red Bull Racing?

Webber: I virtually know everyone's shoe size here! I know everyone's names, I know how everyone ticks and I know all the departments which is very, very important for a driver. There's a whole raft of factors.

Q5: And how is working with the Team and with Sebastian (Vettel)?

Webber: Very good. Obviously with Seb, we've worked very, very close together for a long period of time now. I think no one would really have envisaged how long we have worked together, so that's probably been a bit of a surprise. There are not many teammates staying together for that long in Formula One, but it's proved to be a successful partnership with both of us working very hard with the key technical members of the team. It's been a potent operation. We're still competitive when we hit the track, no question about it, especially in 2010 and this year. Last year there wasn't much racing between Sebastian and I, but in 2009, 2010 and this year, there have been some great battles. That's been enjoyable for the team, sometimes stressful too as it's not easy for both of us to be at the front and I can understand that, as both of us are thinking about ourselves sometimes, but ultimately we know that we need to get the cars home and get the best results for us and the team.

Q6: Does it help to have contracts sorted earlier in the season?

Webber: Yes it does and that's another reason to just get it to bed. I've been hearing different rumours and reasons for a long time now. At the end of the day I know everything that has been going on. You want to make sure your focus is clearly on driving the car and the guys that you're working with. It's important the team knows you're 100 per cent with them, which, of course, I am.

Q7: Will 2013 be your last season in F1?

Webber: I've been asked this question for the past four years and my answer remains the same. It's a results-based sport at the front of the grid so the future lies in my own hands. It's down to me to deliver the on-track results.

Using the best pilot in the world, Sebastian Vettel, to illustrate this, shows how serious we are in our ambitions to develop the brand.”

The creative platform was developed by TBWA\G1 in Paris. European Creative Director Alasdhair MacGregor Hasties: "By showing how emotion is more important than cold science, we have given Infiniti its own performance positioning.”

Since 24 May the advertising campaign has been brought to life across Europe with a 60 second TV commercial followed by activities on poster, digital and social media platforms.

Supporting the TV campaign will also be a unique poster campaign containing 20 stunning works of art from five different artists from all around the globe. The artists were briefed to find an innovative and truly Infiniti way of representing things such as 4-wheel active steering, V8 power, sport brakes, and continuous damping control. Each image, one for each F1 race, will convey the same overall message about how Infiniti sees performance….not in black and white but purple.

The TV advert is available to be viewed along with the poster artwork, as they are unveiled after each F1 race, at www.facebook.com/infinitieurope or the website of www.infiniti.eu

Eyeing Global Expansion, Infiniti Opens Hong Kong Global Headquarters

Eyeing Global Expansion, Infiniti Opens Hong Kong Global Headquarters

May 25 2012

Infiniti has officially opened its new global headquarters in Hong Kong, signalling the rising importance of Asia for high-end automakers.

The relocation, almost 3,000 km from Nissan's Yokohama headquarters, heralds Infiniti's expansion plans with China a key tenet.

Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn, opening the Infiniti HQ, said Hong Kong is an ideal base for continued growth in the world's largest auto market.

"Why? Because Hong Kong is the door to China," Ghosn said. "It's also a place where you can easily connect with the southeast of Asia, so that's why we said let's get out of Tokyo, let's go to Hong Kong, put the whole team together so we can reinforce the identity of the brand and the people working for the brand and be very near, and interacting with, the main promising market for Infiniti, which is China."

Infiniti unveiled a long-wheel-base version of the flagship M sedan at the Beijing auto show in April, and also revealed plans for local production of additional models in China.

China, the brand's second largest market, will be home to a global expansion that includes Tennessee, USA production of the JX crossover and, from 2014, European-built Infinitis in partnership with Magna Steyr.

"To pursue the 10 per cent market share for Infiniti, this means we're going to move from something around 150,000 cars sold last year to something around 500,000 within the next four to five years," Ghosn said. "In order to do that, it's very difficult to build all those cars in Japan."

Just as important for customers in Hong Kong, Infiniti's corporate arrival will shortly be followed by a first dealership.

Donald M.T. Yip, CEO of Dah Chong Hong Holdings, whose firm sells Nissan cars in Hong Kong, says he expects great things from Infiniti as the brand goes head-to-head with global rivals.

"In Hong Kong, luxury car sales are almost 50 per cent of the car sales today," said Yip. "So when Infiniti comes to Hong Kong, I think it's a very good time and will probably give us some excitement in terms of sales. We can do that with the help of Infiniti."

Infiniti aims for 500,000 deliveries annually by 2016, making higher sales and share in China crucial to paving a global highway ahead.

Infiniti LE Concept – A Vision of Zero Emission Luxury Revealed at New York International Auto Show

Infiniti LE Concept – A Vision of Zero Emission Luxury Revealed at New York International Auto Show

April 10 2012

"Production Intent" Concept Previews Infiniti's Upcoming Luxury Electric Vehicle

Infiniti has unveiled its dramatic new Infiniti LE Concept, a near-production version of the performance luxury brand's first zero emission luxury sedan.

Making its world debut during a press conference at the 2012 New York International Auto Show at New York's Javits Center, the Infiniti LE Concept combines an advanced electric vehicle drivetrain and wireless charging system with signature Infiniti luxury style and Inspired Performance. A production version of the LE Concept is expected to reach Infiniti showrooms in near-similar form within the next two years.

"Infiniti is about a unique fusion of performance and hospitality, and a distinct vision that challenges convention. Part of that vision, part of our challenger mindset, is a belief that the future of luxury is sustainable luxury," said Carlos Ghosn, president and chief executive officer, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. "No other luxury brand has the corporate EV experience, the advanced battery technology, or the sustainable product credibility to claim a leadership position in zero emission luxury. No one except Infiniti."

Among the key features and innovations of the Infiniti LE Concept are:

  1. Luxury sedan style, combining signature Infiniti design cues with EV aerodynamic efficiency
  2. Exceptional acceleration and re-acceleration, providing a new level of luxury driving experience
  3. Leading-edge compact Lithium-ion battery technology
  4. Smart hospitality, featuring a quiet, luxurious Infiniti interior and next-gen Infiniti Connection, Infiniti Personal Assistant and EV connected services
  5. Innovative, intuitive home-based Wireless Charging System with Intelligent Park Assist

About the Infiniti LE Concept
From inception, the LE Concept has been designed as a pure Infiniti, rather than as an electric vehicle with luxury appointments. It starts with an advanced luxury styled sedan body, not a converted hatchback - its bold exterior defined by its underlying high performance. The LE Concept's dramatic exterior blends distinctive Infiniti design cues, such as its double-arch grille and crescent-cut rear-pillar, with EV aerodynamic efficiency to create a sleek, emotional silhouette. The large front grille features a solid finisher and a charge port hidden under the illuminated centre Infiniti emblem.

The Infiniti LE Concept's compact EV platform maximizes interior space by placing the batteries under the passenger compartment floor. This positioning helps provide a low vehicle centre of gravity for enhanced handling and maximises boot room, without compromising front or rear seat passenger legroom or comfort. Beyond its advanced packaging, the real beauty of the interior is its "smart hospitality" - combining a luxurious Infiniti environment with next-generation instrumentation, driver interface and connectivity.

Infiniti-EV meters combine modern digital display and timeless analogue gauges, creating an atmosphere of both exclusivity and futuristic design. The centre cluster features an innovative connected twin display powered by an Intel Atom™ processor. The elegant, bolstered seat and door trim design also comes from traditional roots, inspired by the "Eriashi" (collar) of a Japanese kimono. The seats are covered in a suede-and-mesh fabric with violet accents, and semi-aniline leather sides.

Targeting "impressive city and highway EV acceleration," the engineering team behind the LE Concept's e-powertrain sought a silent, smooth response for both accelerating from a start and re-accelerating, such as merging onto freeways or changing lanes. Torque of 240 lb-ft (325 Nm) is instantly available immediately at all times. The Infiniti LE Concept's battery system is a proven laminated 24 kWh lithium-ion (Li-ion) design with a ChaDeMo DC50kW quick charger.

"A luxury car for a new generation of sustainable luxury buyers must not compromise on performance. Buyers want 'green,' but won't settle for any aspect of the driving experience being less than that of their current luxury vehicles," said Ghosn.

The Infiniti LE Concept's connectivity to the outside world includes the next generation of Infiniti Connection features, such as Infiniti Personal Assistant 24-hour concierge service, navigation, and POI search.

In terms of charging, the Infiniti LE Concept is equipped to utilize an integrated charging port, a DC Fast Charge option and an advanced Wireless Charging System, which is expected to be the first home-based wireless charging system if adapted for the production version.

The system's non-contact charging is via inductive energy flow, with a coil safely encased on the garage floor. The high-frequency AC-3.3 kW charging, controlled by the twin display or smartphone, is safe for children and pets and can be installed easily in a home garage.

In addition, taking inspired technology a step beyond, the Infiniti LE Concept features an Intelligent Park Assist with Around View™ Monitor to easily align the vehicle in the proper position over the wireless charging coil. The system uses e-steering, with full forward and backward capability, along with a 360-degree view of the surrounding area. It also bookmarks the parking place in GPS so that once the vehicle enters the garage, for example, the navigation system will automatically switch to Around View™ Monitor and the system is ready to park the car.

"A concept today, but a reality soon, the Infiniti LE Concept and its wireless charging system means that on top of no longer having to pump gas, you will no longer have to connect charging cables," concluded Ghosn. "In a rapidly changing world, Infiniti is well ahead of the game."

Mark Webber Drives the Infiniti EMERG-E Prototype for the First Time at Goodwood

Mark Webber Drives the Infiniti EMERG-E Prototype for the First Time at Goodwood

02/07/2012

Red Bull Racing Formula One driver Mark Webber drove the Infiniti EMERG-E range-extender hybrid sports car for the first time yesterday on the famed hillclimb at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The EMERG-E Concept was launched at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year and this weekend’s Festival of Speed marked the global debut of the working prototype.

Twin electric motors generate 402bhp (300kW) and Webber wowed the Goodwood crowds with a vehicle capable of 0-60mph sprints in just four seconds and a top speed of 130mph. Under full electric power, Infiniti EMERG-E operates as a zero emission vehicle for a 30-mile range and when the Lotus-engineered 1.2l three cylinder range-extender petrol engine kicks in to recharge the batteries, it produces a CO2 output of only 55g/km (NEDC cycle) over a 300 mile range.

Commenting after his drive, Mark Webber said: "I’m used to Formula One cars that make a lot of noise, so to drive a silent car was very new to me! Infiniti have made something really nice here. The EMERG-E looks beautiful and is very quick – faster than you expect with it being so quiet. It was great fun being able to drive it up the hill. Cars like this have to be the future – fast, fun and clean.”
